Unmatched is a fast-paced asymmetric combat card game designed by Rob Daviau and Justin D. Jacobson, published by Restoration Games. Each player chooses a unique hero — drawn from history, folklore, and fiction — with their own deck of cards and special abilities. No two heroes play alike. It suits 2–4 players and plays in 20–40 minutes.
-
Any Unmatched set is a complete standalone game for 2 players. Great starting points are Battle of Legends Vol 1 (4 classic heroes) or Robin Hood vs Bigfoot for a fun, accessible introduction. All sets are fully compatible with each other.
-
Yes — all Unmatched heroes are fully compatible across every set, including licensed sets like The Witcher. You can pit any hero against any other, creating thousands of unique match-ups.
-
Unmatched has expanded into licensed universes including The Witcher (Steel & Silver and Realms Fall), Unmatched Adventures: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Lee vs Ali. These sets use the same core system and are fully compatible with all other Unmatched heroes.
-
Most sets support 2 players out of the box. Sets like Battle of Legends Vol 1 and Vol 2 support up to 4 players by combining heroes from the same box. Combining multiple sets allows for larger multiplayer games.
-
Unmatched has simple core rules that can be learned in under 10 minutes, but offers deep strategic variety through hero asymmetry and deck management. It suits both casual and hobby gamers, and works well as a gateway game into hobby card games.
